Good Fences Make Good Neighbors

The house and land we bought is just that, a house, a shelter, on a plot of land. No other amenities. I had in mind electricity, then water, then house upgrades to make it livable. Tonny asked for a security fence.

The boundaries of the plot are not discernable from the rest of the jungle. So, okay, we agreed, and so it began.

If you live in urban America, Canada, or Europe, a privacy fence keeps the dogs in and the dogs out. It also allows a measure of privacy from prying eyes. This barrier doesn’t do much to keep out the cats… unless you’re in Uganda where the tabby could weigh 400 pounds.  Or where snakes with names like cobra, adder, mamba, viper, and a rock python roam.

Not long after work on the fence began, the laborers killed a snake that weighed 60 pounds.

Okay, okay. I’m all in on the security fence. It’s coming along well and will be completed by the end of next week. Entry gate included.

My wife had a garden hoe after a snake once. I told her was a garter snake and harmless. She said, “I don’t care what his first name is. His last name is snake!” 😊
